What is Cape Fear Memorial Foundation?
Cape Fear Memorial Foundation is a private, non-operating foundation located in Wilmington, North Carolina. Its primary purpose is to serve the health and medical needs of the people of Southeastern North Carolina. It supports charitable not-for-profit organizations that provide health and medical services and health education.
What is the Foundation’s objective and priority?
The Foundation’s objective is to support programs that improve the general health and wellness of the people of southeastern North Carolina. Funding programs and organizations that promote health education, disease prevention, and provide direct medical and health services has been, and continues to be the priority of the Foundation’s granting philosophy.
Who may the Foundation fund?
An organization may be eligible for a grant from the Foundation if it is qualified under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and it is not a private, non-operating foundation (as defined by Section 509(a) of the Code), or if it is a public instrumentality involved in providing services to improve the general health and welfare of the community. Qualifying organizations must be located within an approximate 50 mile radius of Wilmington, North Carolina. Grants will not be made to individuals or to for-profit organizations.
What is the schedule for applications?
Applications will be accepted by the Foundation until the close of business on January 15 and July 15, or the first business day thereafter if the deadline falls on a holiday or weekend.
The Board will meet in March and September to evaluate the proposals and decide which proposals to fund. Shortly thereafter, the applicant organization will be notified of the Board’s decision.
How long does it take to get a grant from the Foundation?
It can take up to six months for an application to go through the review and decision-making process.
What kinds of requests may be funded?
The Foundation may support health and medical services with grants of the following types:
- Program Start-up Costs
- Ongoing Program Expenses
- Building and Equipment Costs
Are there other grant conditions?
Foundation grants may not be awarded when they are the total means of financial support, but preferably will be made in conjunction with other sources of support.
Grants usually will be awarded for short-term projects with no more than a 3-year commitment. Multi-year grants ordinarily will be awarded in decreasing annual amounts. Periodic progress reports may be requested prior to releasing installments of multi-year grants.
